BEING 747 - in association with The Dearne Valley Green Heart Partnership present:

Yorkshire rock band, Being 747, have been commissioned to produce a brand new musical show to tell the story of the natural and social history of the Dearne Valley area of South Yorkshire.

In The Valley’ has been designed to educate and entertain in equal measures as a 45-minute production that will include: Seven ultra-catchy pop songs played by a live band, audience engagement and narrative, full multi-media visual show and a load of daft props and costumes. The show will be touring schools in the South Yorkshire area from spring 2011 onwards

The production targets particular age groups in schools: Y5 & 6 primary and Y7 & 8 in secondary schools, although the show is just as relevant and enjoyable for older students too. Key aims of the production are:

· To explain the water cycle with particular reference to the River Dearne

· To increase understanding of the causes and consequences of river flooding and the choices involved in managing floods

· To involve the children in their local area and especially the ways it has changed over time and the possibilities for change in the future

· To develop the children’s appreciation of environmental issues through the focus of their local area – The Dearne Valley

‘In The Valley’ has full relevance to aspects of the Key Stage 2 & 3 National Curriculum in Science, English, Geography and History. The show can be performed in your school – providing a compelling and cross-curricular learning experience with real ‘wow factor’.

Chapter 2: ‘ON YOUR DOORSTEP’ - Welcome to a world of wild wonder – all on your doorstep! This song encourages people to get out and explore the local environment. The visuals were filmed entirely on location at the Old Moor RSPB reserve near Barnsley - the band goof about as ‘country gentlemen’ discovering the delights of twitching and traversing the Trans-Pennine Trail on some very green transport – a bike!

Chapter 3: ‘THE SWEET, SWEET DEARNE’ - The Dearne Valley area has a strong industrial heritage – it is industry that has shaped the social history of the area, but at what cost? This chapter looks at the history of life by the river and its effect on one of its more wild inhabitants – the salmon.

Chapter 4: ‘THE WATER CYCLE’ - A beautiful animation accompanies this song that, as the title suggests, aims to explain the stages of the water cycle.

Chapter 5: ‘WRITTEN IN THE MUD’ - After explaining the benefits of managed washlands, we look at the pitfalls of living in an area that is prone to flooding. This chapter raises awareness of the issues surrounding building on or near flood plains. The visuals are the group’s first attempt at stop-motion animation – using Dave’s children’s own building bricks and construction toys!
