So then, it seems
that the modern rock opera is very much alive! We’ve
been touring our 14 chapter natural history musical epic pretty
much exclusively in schools up and down the country for the
past couple of years now, but in the background we’ve
also been chipping away at recording its album counterpart.
It’s been a long, long time in the making – over
4.6billion years in fact. Some could even argue that the whole
of this planet’s remarkable history of evolution has
been leading up to, and will culminate in this one gargantuan
artistic event: The releasing of the ‘AMOEBA TO ZEBRA’
album by Huddersfield’s premiere astound-o-pop trio,
BEING 747.
The album
will be available in both CD and digital format – the
physical version will include beautiful artwork designed by
our good friend Kristyna Baczynski (www.kriscicorp.blogspot.com)
with a 16-page booklet containing all the lyrics and narration.
Both CD and download versions will feature the full 55-min
sequence of songs that appear in the live show.
The digital download version is available RIGHT NOW through
all the usual stockists (iTunes etc)
AMOEBA
TO ZEBRA - This astonishing musical concept show
charts the development of life on Earth from the simplest
of single-cell organisms right the way through to the complexities
of our own species. Along the way, the subject matter covers
all the major animal groups, plants, bacteria and the processes
and environmental conditions that have shaped them. Strongly
informed by Darwin’s world-changing theory of evolution
by natural selection, but with the pathos and passion of David
Attenborough’s documentary work, this is the first time
such a subject has been explored with such detail and vigour
through music.
The modern rock
opera is very much alive in the form of this 55-minute, 14
chapter natural history musical devised and performed by ‘Astound-o-pop’
trio, BEING 747. The show combines ultra-catchy songs with
a startling multi-media visual feast, dramatic narration and
ridiculously wild props
‘Amoeba
to Zebra’ has been a huge hit with secondary schools
the length and breadth of England over the past two years
where the band have been exclusively performing - but now
Being 747 bring their show north of the border for the first
time to premier at this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
This utterly unique
combination of music and science is fully relevant to the
national curriculum and has received jaw-dropping reactions
from both pupils and teachers everywhere it has been performed.
Described by some as “An indie pop cross between War
of the Worlds and Walking with Dinosaurs”, this show
is constantly evolving itself – ever more elaborate
props, visuals and performances with every sho
Some school testimonials:
“I
have some idea of how long this must have taken to prepare
and I was very impressed. How you could squeeze the history
of a few billion years into anything less than 55mins defies
imagination!” – Andy Twaites, Cockburn
College or Arts, Leeds
“This show is unique in its delivery of the
ideas of evolution. We targeted our more able year 10
for their core GCSE work on evolution. We will definitely
book this show again.” – John Popham,
Director of Specialism, Carleton Community Science College,
Pontefract
“A punchy and really enjoyable learning
experience - the students were soon engaged and clapping and
singing along with enthusiasm. So refreshing to see Science
taught through the medium of the Expressive Arts.”
– Jan Bridger, Head of Drama, Penair School, Truro,
Cornwall.
